NETSCAPE E-MAIL CONFIGURATION

The following section covers both Netscape v3.x and Netscape Communicator (4.x).

Netscape 3.x (Includes the various Netscape Gold variants)

To set up Netscape 3.x to retrieve mail, you need to select the Window toolbar option, and from there click on Netscape Mail. Once in the Netscape mail-reader, select the Options menu and click on Mail and News Preferences. That will pull up the screen shown below (you may need to select the tab-menu 'Servers' to pull up this exact screen).

Enter the information as it appears on the displayed screen to your right, replacing <username> with your username (Example: If your username is phil@Trans-Video.Net, you would just put phil in that space). The Mail Directory entry should already be set by Netscape; you can leave it what it sets it to, or you can change it to another directory if you wish your mail to be stored elsewhere on your hard-drive.

Once this is done, Netscape 3.x will be ready to read mail!

Netscape Communicator 4.x

Netscape Communicator 4.x differs slightly from the previous versions, and has a different settings screen. Below is shown the window that you will need to open in order to modify the mail settings for Netscape 4.x. This window can be accessed by clicking on the Communicator menu selection from the top of the screen in Netscape Communicator, and then selecting Messenger Mailbox. Once the Netscape Mail program has been loaded, you can change the settings by selecting Edit, and then Preferences. Click on the + sign beside Mail & Groups to open the sub-categories beneath it, and from there click on Mail Server to highlight it. Once it has been selected, the screen displayed below will appear.

Enter the information on your screen as it appears in the image above, with <username> replaced by your own username. (Example: If your username is phil@Trans-Video.Net, you would enter phil in the indicated space.)

The box beside "Leave messages on server after retrieval" should only be checked if you access your mail from several machines, and wish to be able to read the same message on any one of them.
